06:24 pm - Going to Texas I know it is about time, but I am really going to Texas to meet Sam. It has been 4 months since we met online. Hundreds of hours of phone calls, dozens of emails, tons of IM, one webchat, and a few gifts later, I am finally getting on a plane on April 25th- April 29th. It is exciting and scary at the same time. I think that we are both feeling the same way. We need to see if this is going to work in reality. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? 03:49 pm - Which journal am updating? I don't know which journal to update any more. Now I remember that Newpoetik is my good journal and p0etik is not one I have updated in the past. Geez, I wish I had enough to say that would fill up at least one journal, let alone two. I have been so busy opening the new place that I haven't had a moment for myself. Tomorrow we are hosting an open house at the new place. From 12-5 I will be putting on a happy face and welcoming everyone to For Dogs Grooming & Boutique. I tell you what: one business is good but two is a ton of work. I am finding it very difficult to put myself in both places at the same time. Today I have 6 dogs boarding at Ren Dogs and I have to keep a close eye on them all day. This limits my ability to do some necessary things such as shopping for food, laundry, and cleaning my apartment. I really need to find out how to clone myself.
In other news: I got Cooper (my big black dog) DNA tested a couple of days ago. In 2-4 weeks we will know once and for all what the hell he is made up of. This has been one of those questions that has always been in the back of my mind since I adopted him. My vet was nice enough to set me up with the Mars Wisdom Panel DNA test. This test covers 130 breeds and hopefully Cooper is covered by the breeds. I will keep you are posted. Actually, want to play along with a contest I am running at Ren Dogs? What is Cooper? Leave me a note and tell me what you think he might be. I will send a prize to the winner. Here is the link to the panel and the breeds that are tested by it. My guess is Newfie/Border Collie/Shepherd. What is yours? His picture is the icon. Current Location: my apartment Current Mood: busy

07:11 pm - More Pictures...The Sign
Here are some new photos of the building, more specifically the sign. After checking on the prices of vinyl lettering, I found a sign painter that could do both sides in less than 2 days for 1/2 the price. He was able to customize the font of the name so it is more readable from the road. I am amazed at the craftsmonship of Harry from Harry's Signs. It was the best decision I have made yet. What do you think? ( See the pictures ) Current Mood: ecstatic

We worked hard this week on getting the front of the building completed. It entailed removing the garage door on the left (10x10), making an opening for a garage door in the middle, and adding a door and window. We took off the vinyl siding up to the 8' height and added a Hardy Plank Panel to break up the building. I learned a lot about vinyl siding, caulking, window trim, and how to take a garage door off. My mom and step-dad are amazing. So here are the pictures.
Next week we start on the inside of the main playroom! Yipee!! Current Location: In the house that is not selling Current Mood: tired

04:58 pm - Changing everyday! So my house was under contract, then they decided to do a special loan, that I would have to give money back at closing and extend the closing date. My agent set up a showing of my property for 2pm with another potential customer and at 1:30 the customers drove into my driveway. They looked around and went back to the realtor's office. The mother/daughter drove into the driveway of my realtors office, where by coincidence my mother/stepfather were working on the bathroom. My agent was not back at her office by 2:05 and the customers were going to leave. My mother was a realtor in a past life and volunteered to take them over to my house. They agreed and came over. I sat in my tiny car with the AC full blast because I had all 4 dogs squished inside on this stifling hot day. The mother/daughter walked in my house, my mother giving them all the highlights and low lights of the house. She learned that they were supposed to close on a house at 5pm today but really like my house instead. My mother told them what I was willing to sell the house for and that I could be out in a week. The emphasis is on the timing because they are currently living in a hotel. The new potential customers left my house at 2:30 with the intention of getting out of their closing and buying my house in a week. It is 5:07 now and I still do not know if I am going to have my house much longer. I am tired of getting my hopes dashed. The house has been under contract 3 times and 3 times the customers have failed to get financing. This would be the 4th. This would also be the 2nd house that my mother has sold for the realtor. Two weeks ago her house closed after she was the one who showed it to the customers. We want a finders fee now. Keep your fingers crossed that this one works.
BTW: What happened to buying a house with actual money? I thought that you had to have some money to buy things? I guess I am wrong. Current Location: In the house that will hopefully sell soon. Current Mood: new business and selling house

05:07 pm - Progress Continues...
So this week we worked on the office of the daycare. This is my customer's first impression of the facility. I was going for a castle interior feel without all the rats, plague, and dampness. What do you think? Did we do it? It really only took two days and $1,000 to complete this 10x16 room. Only 2,000 sq feet left to improve in the daycare and 3 apartments that need to be gutted and updated. We are hoping to be open for business by mid-August with a grand opening party planned for the weekend after Labor Day.
Office Before...
There is still lots of work to do, but I am very excited about last week's progress. Everyday feels like Christmas right now.

10:14 am - Still Alive Hello everyone,
I am still alive and back in Maine. I have finished school with a new title: Certified Behavior Specialist and Pet Trainer. It was a difficult, but exciting 4 months. I made some great friends all around the country and came home with a new "best friend". His name is Atticus and he was found wandering the streets of Austin after Hurricane Rita. We guess that he is 2-3 years old and a lab/golden mix. He is a wonderful dog! We are working to become certified in Search and Rescue. Also, Atticus was asked to join the Downeast Reader Dog program. This program allows kids to read to dogs at the local library. With his gentle nature, and literary name, Atticus is sure to do well in this job.
I am currently trying to purchase a perfect building to start a doggie daycare and training facility. The funding is not quite working out right. Does anyone want to invest in a sure money maker? Great returns with a short term investment! All the financials are available...
I will be coming down to MA soon. We should all get together and eat lots of sushi!
Take care everyone. Current Location: Maine Current Mood: hopeful

06:03 pm - Pictures from Texas
Penny, my first training dog. She is very sweet and available for adoption at www.trainedrescuedogs.com

Even the dogs are tired.

Jessy, my second training dog. She is owned by a TCA employee. Good thing, because she would be coming home with me.

Lynn (human) and her dogs, Cassidy and Courtney. Cooper looks on for a treat.

I wish that I could say that this was at sunset, but it is really sunrise. Yes, I am up before the sun...

05:22 pm - Texas in November! So here I am in Texas, just outside Austin, and it was 89 degrees today. Home it is 26 degrees. Oh, I like this part of being in Texas. I guess you can tell that I have tons of free time here at Triple Crown. In fact, I have so much time free (tongue in cheek) that I found 5 minutes to update my journal. I will tell you all about this experience later, but now I am very tired. The weekends are just as much work at the weekdays. I am assigned two dogs and Cooper and I am responsible for the care of all three. I will try and post some pictures in the next post.
I am doing well and miss you all. Every morning they do mail call and I have yet to receive a piece of mail. So, here is your challenge: Send me some mail. Junk mail. Goodies. Cards. Anything...

10:27 am - Big D Sorry that I did not update last night. I had the hardest time connecting to the hotel's network. I was only able to get on this morning. Here's a recap of yesterday's drive. Little Rock to Dallas Little Rock has the best dog park! Huge 2 acres fenced in, pick up bags, big buckets of water, balls, toys, and many fun loving dogs for Cooper to play with. He fell in love with a black lab named Jade. Almost was run off the road by a Batesville Casket Company tandem truck. The slogan on the back of the truck reads: Drive Carefully: Heaven will wait. (They have a logo store and I am thinking of buying a mug or t-shirt. Oh, they have mini trucks for sale!!!) Car Talk by Southern Baptists (God Bless you and your hemi) Huge rest stops (Everything is bigger in Texas) Cooper skinned his front paw (ripped the back pad right off) I am bringing a lame dog to dog training school. This does not bode well. I did not make it to the Dallas Slam because I had to take care of Cooper's paw (see above) Off to Round Rock today...going to drive by the school to check it out. I hope it looks like the picture.
No new license plates today.
Photos later... Current Mood: satisfied Current Music: Discovery Channel

09:31 am - Semi Sidekick Here I am in Little Rock at a dramatically better hotel than the night in Knoxville. I found cockroaches in my bed in TN. I can't decide if I should push onto Round Rock or stop in a few hours in Dallas. I have never been a huge fan of big cities and Dallas is as big as you can get. Here are some of my road observations:
I-81 and I-40 are busy busy roads. If you are feeling bad about the price of gas, just watch the trucks for a while. Cooper is not a little dog, but he is welcome at any hotel. All he does is sleep. He is a great travel companion, once again all he does is sleep. I tried to get him to drive, but he opted to squeek his stuffy squirrel instead. I am doing my part for the license plate game by adding Maine to the mix. The Motel6 in Knoxville is a hell hole with bugs. Last night I had dinner in a Waffle House and I smoked at the table. (I didn't know that anyone was allowed to smoke inside anymore) It made me very very happy!!! (Sorry, Bill!) Cigarettes are 2.20 in TN. I stocked up. I can't decide if I want to push onto Round Rock today (7 hrs) or stop in Dallas (5 hrs). I don't have to be in Round Rock until Saturday. Hotel costs $20 more in Dallas, but it might be nice to take Cooper to the dog park for a while today. (There is a cool park here in Little Rock)
Okay, I am going to take a shower and hit the road. I will let you know where I end up tonight.

12:46 pm - yipee I got my laptop back after two weeks and two different repair shops. The first place seriously messed up my system. The second place worked a miracle. They fixed the power problem and all the other problems the first place created. I am so very happy to have the computer back and in good shape. Only one minor complaint, the left mouse click is sticky. I am not going to say anything because they fixed the motherboard with the missing chip and only charged me for 3 hours of work. 1/4 the price of a new system only half as good as the one I have. I will just change my clicking habits.
Went to the Bangor Humane Dog Walk with Cooper. He met up with his newfie friends and had fun. We are both a bit tired now. Going to work on the house. Only one week left...
